What size and shape is my hot tub? This is an important one because you want to make sure you get the right hot tub cover that will most effectively protect your Jacuzzi. Hot tub covers need to form a good seal in order to work.
What are the terms of the manufacturer’s warranty? Is the warranty on the cover you purchased too short? If it’s only one or two years, there might not be enough time for a true defect to show itself. Some companies offer a ten-year warranty on their hot tub covers.
How thick do you want your cover? If you life in California versus Nebraska, you don’t need as heavy duty of a hot tub cover. If you live in very harsh climates, a thicker cover is necessary for your spa.
How sturdy are the handles? Often, the first things to break on hot tub covers are the handles. This can be incredibly annoying because it will be harder to use your cover effectively if the handles break. Besides, it looks bad.
How strong is the cover? This may seem like a moot point, but if there are going to be children around who may step on the hot tub cover, this is a valid concern. In areas that have a lot of snowfall, the weight of the snow could damage the cover.
How strong is the foam core? The foam core is the part of hot tub covers that does the most work, so to speak. It is the part that actually holds in the heat and maintains the proper temperature. The better the foam core, the hotter your spa stays and the less you spend on energy bills.
Purchasing the right cover will literally pay for itself. Factory hot tub covers—the ones that come with the initial spa purchase—are generally not as good as after-market ones. It could be helpful to purchase a new one that will save you a good amount of money in energy and repair costs.
Also, better hot tub covers will work to keep bacteria, leaves, rodents, and insects out of your Jacuzzi, while preserving the quality of the walls, heater, and interior tubing.
